Application for Foreigner Work Permits and Resident Certificates.

Having established a company in Taiwan, an applicant can, depending on the situation, choose one of the following options in the following table to apply for a work permit; immediately after that, he or she can apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC). Moreover, the applicant’s spouse and children who are minors can also apply for residency in Taiwan as dependents for the same length of stay.

When entering or leaving Taiwan, people holding an ARC are regarded as residents of Taiwan. Therefore, the re-application for the Entry Permit is not required. ARC holders can join the National Health Insurance program, open a bank or securities account, apply for mobile phone numbers, receive education, apply for a driver’s license, etc.

ARC holders with at least five consecutive years of residency for employment in Taiwan can apply for permanent residency.
